Ralph Thoreby’s Ducatus Leodiensis was the first written history of Leeds. The Central Library holds a number of copies.
One is by-far the most important: Thomas Wilson’s own copy, with detailed annotations in his hand. Many of these marginal notes correct, update or amend the material provided by Thoresby some thirty-years earlier.
This edition of the Ducatus remains a unique and vital source of information on 18th-century Leeds. Further information is available elsewhere on the Secret Library.
