A Snowy Day in Bardsey

They say April is the cruellest month, but we reckon it’s March. Getting January and February out of the way can give the misleading comfort of thinking Winter has been and gone…only for March’s revenge: wind, rain, and, of course, snow: the dreaded Fool’s (or False) Spring. What weather will the rest of this March bring?

We’ve recently added a new set of photographs to our curated galleries page on the Leodis image archive: seventy-seven (77) photos showing one such snowy day in March – March 23 2008 to be exact, and all taken in the village of Bardsey.

You can browse the full set of photographs – and read descriptions of each – on Leodis. Below we reproduce six of the best…including one image showing a distinct figure in a red coat. Check out the full gallery and see it you can spot any more images of this mysterious character…

We actually don’t know who took this photograph set – if you know who did, we’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with us by posting a comment below or via 0113 37 86982 | localandfamilyhistory@leeds.gov.uk

12th March 1996 was also a snowy day. It was my 10th birthday and my birthday present was a set of goalposts. My dad set them up in the snow covered garden.
