Following on from yesterday’s great post about the first publication of A Christmas Carol, today, for day 20 of the Heritage Advent Calendar, we bring you the playbills of the show as it appeared historically in Leeds. These playbills are part of our playbill collection, and available to view online at leodis.net
Charles Dicken’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ is a perennial favourite at this time of year and here we have three playbills promoting shows at The Grand Theatre and Leeds City Varieties.

The 1975 Grand Theatre playbill shows Leonard Rossiter in the role of the seasonal miser with a ticket range of £12 for a box, down to 75p for the Upper Balcony.

The 1980 City Varieties playbills lists ticket prices ranged from £1.70, £1.50, £1.20 and 95p for schools.

The final playbill shows no year, however this time the Friends of English National Opera North are performing Dicken’s work as an opera, Adults £2, and Children £1.50, but for members it is £1.50 and 75p respectively.
See you tomorrow for day 21 of our Heritage Advent Calendar.
